Sip on Cold Brew Coffee from These NoVA Cafés

Get a pick-me-up with these refreshing beverages.

By Maggie Roth March 29, 2024 at 12:02 pm

Many food and beverage trends have come and gone, but cold brew coffee — the slow-steeping method that surged in popularity in the past decade — is one that’s here to stay. The smooth, balanced brew has cemented itself as a staple in coffee shops everywhere. Now, you can find cold brew on tap, infused with nitrogen (to give it a silky texture and enhance the flavor), and topped with decadently creamy foams. Here are a few places where you can get your caffeine fix in NoVA.

Swing’s Coffee Roasters

The brew at this staple roastery is a blend of coffee from Indonesia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Ethiopia, which the menu says gives it notes of cacao nibs, blackberry, and blueberry. There’s the traditional cold brew, as well as the smooth and creamy nitro version. 501 E. Monroe St., Alexandria

Commonwealth Joe

Nitro brews are on tap at this Arlington café. Get it black for a strong sip, or try one of the cold brew oat milk lattes — there’s a classic oat milk version, vanilla lavender, and cinnamon. For a limited time, try the summery peach cobbler cold foam cold brew. 520 12th St. S., Ste. 150, Arlington

Basecamp Coffee Roasters

In addition to standard cold brew, this coffee shop offers Japanese style slow-drip cold brew. The method uses a special machine to slowly drip water over coffee grounds drop by drop. It’s a long process, but one that results in a smooth, well-balanced cup. 8461-D Leesburg Pk., Tysons

Cervantes Coffee Roasters

Sometimes one cup just isn’t enough. At Cervantes, the cold brew is sold in-house for immediate enjoyment, but customers can also purchase a growler or bottle of concentrate to make their own drinks at home. 7644 Fullerton Rd., Unit 1, Springfield

Weird Brothers Coffee

You’ll find fresh, flavorful coffee at this family-owned café, where the beans are roasted right in Herndon. There are options for classic cold brew or a nitro version, and seasonal specials like the Irish cream nitro provide a chance to mix it up. Multiple area locations

Goosecup

This all-day café is a jack-of-all-trades, offering coffee, beer and wine, and cocktails, plus pastries and breakfast sandwiches. The shop roasts its own coffee, and the cold brew is steeped for 18 hours before it’s served. 216 S. King St., Leesburg
