6 unique workout classes to join this weekend

From cat yoga to kayaking and painting, kick off the weekend with a new workout class.

By Michele Kettner June 1, 2021 at 4:03 pm

If you are starting to get bored with your daily workout routine, we’ve got the answer for you. Whether you’re looking to enjoy a superhero run with the family or stay cool and relaxed inside with cat yoga, here are six unique workout classes to try this weekend.

Paddling & Palettes

Thursday, 5-8 p.m.
Instead of choosing between kayaking and painting, this event combines the two. The three-hour paddle session allows you to go out on the bay and create watercolor paintings of the beautiful views and surrounding wildlife. // Mason Neck State Park: 7301 High Point Rd., Lorton; $25

Yoga in Liberia’s Garden

Saturday, 10-11 a.m.
Just grab a chair and enjoy the views of the garden. Refresh your body as you start your weekend with a quick chair yoga session among the beautiful grounds. All donations support future programs and projects at Manassas Museum sites. // 8601 Portner Ave., Manassas; free, $15 donation suggested

Rainbow Beer Run

Saturday, 9:45 a.m.
It’s already June, which means it’s time to celebrate Pride Month. Join the community for a run around the lake to kick off your Saturday. Afterward, head to the taproom to catch a live stream of the Reston Pride Festival with some refreshing beer and pretzels. // Lake Anne Brew House: 11401 N. Shore Dr., Reston; free

Super Hero 5K

Sunday, 7-11 a.m.
Grab your super suit and cape for the annual hero run. Show off your special powers as you race along the windy course along the river. Make sure to bring your furry sidekicks and heroes-in-training along for full family fun. // Occoquan Regional Park: 9751 Ox Rd., Lorton; $18-$30

Namaste & Rose All Day

Sunday, 11 a.m.
Not much beats a morning of yoga and wine. Start off with an hour of vinyasa flow yoga with a stunning view overlooking the vineyard, then enjoy a glass of Fleetwood Farm wine. Guests can stay as long as they like relaxing on the property. // Fleetwood Farm Winery: 23075 Evergreen Mills Rd., Leesburg; $25

Cat Yoga

Sunday, 11 a.m.-noon
You’ve probably heard about goat yoga, but what about cat yoga? Mount Purrnon is hosting its first yoga session with their feline friends. Grab your mats and cuddle with these cuties as you stretch it out Sunday morning. // Mount Purrnon Cat Cafe & Wine Bar: 109 S. Alfred St., Alexandria; $25
