Artist Makeda Smith doesn’t just want her jewelry to make you feel beautiful. She wants it to give you the inspiration to do the things you love. Smith, the founder of Sio Ceramics, says she’d gotten away from her love of crafting things out of clay before she decided to get back in the art studio in 2018. From there, she started crafting wearable art. Her jewelry line was born—and her confidence as an artist returned. Today, Sio Ceramics includes hand-built sculptures, home goods and wearable art. This winter, look for the release of a new jewelry collection and a new home decor collection. Here, the DC resident shares her fashion and beauty faves, plus what she loves to do when she’s in NoVA.

About Face

Hive Mind
“I like the Shoe Hive. They have so many great items to choose from, and they support local makers.”
Date Night
“Daniel O’Connell’s Restaurant & Bar in Alexandria is the best. I love grabbing a beer and sitting on the rooftop.”
Ray of Light
“I like my Ray-Bans because they are durable, sturdy and timeless. They’ll always be in style.”
