As people continue to return to work and use public transportation around Northern Virginia, WMATA has announced that four NoVA stations will be opening by Tuesday, Sept. 8, returning full service to the region.
After months of construction, the East Falls Church station will reopen Sunday, Aug. 23. The station closed earlier this year as part of Metro’s Platform Improvement Project. Along with the platform restoration, riders will also have access to the station’s new Bike & Ride facility, which offers free, secure bicycle parking.
This week, Metro also reopened the West Falls Church and five Silver Line stations in Virginia to riders—McLean, Tysons Corner, Greensboro, Spring Hill and Wiehle-Reston East—all ahead of schedule.
Three more Metro stations will be opening after having to shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This first will be the Arlington Cemetery station, which will also be open starting Sunday, Aug. 23. The other two are Vienna and Dunn Loring, which will reopen Tuesday, Sept. 8.
With these two stations reopening, WMATA said in a recent press release, it will be “the first time all Metrorail stations have been open since March 19, when Metro initiated strategic station and entrance closures as part of its comprehensive response to the public health emergency.”
As the region continues to return to normal, both Metrorail and Metrobus services will “increase dramatically” starting Sunday, Aug. 23. Metrorail will return to regular opening times and close at 11 p.m. each night, while Metrobus will run from 4 a.m. to midnight daily.
