Metro gives updates on summer shutdown; Arlington opens Local Recovery Center

Metro is sticking with the Sept. 9 reopening date for regular service of the Blue and Yellow Lines, after making the statement during a media tour of the construction zone on Thursday, Aug. 8. Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld said the six stations south of Reagan National Airport may not need single-tracking delays upon reopening, but only time will tell. (WTOP)

Arlington County will be opening a Local Recovery Center to help residents and businesses affected by the July 8 flood. The U.S. Small Business Administration is also offering low-interest federal loans to help homeowners, renters and businesses rebuild after the sustained flood and storm damage. (Arlington County)

Arlington Public School system was named the best school system in the commonwealth of Virginia for the second year in a row. The 2020 Best Schools List reported that the school system has an A+ ranking, with Falls Church City public schools ranking second, and Fairfax County Schools ranking sixth. (WUSA9)

Burnside Farms is welcoming flower fans from near and far for the 2019 summer flower season. The property is currently covered in blooming sunflowers, and new for this year, is offering Sunflower Sunsets, where guests can tour the fields in the evening from 6 to 8 p.m. (Inside NoVA)
