DC ranked highest in infant care costs; McLean roads remain closed

Northern Virginia’s daily dose of local and national news for Friday, July 26.

By Editorial July 26, 2019 at 9:04 am

Based on a new report from the Economic Policy Institute, Washington, DC, parents are paying the highest average rate of infant child care in the United States. The report shows the average cost of full-time, center-based infant care for DC as $24,243 a year, roughly $2,020 a month. (WTOP)

Tensions are rising as delays extend for Fairfax County road repairs following the flash flooding and storms earlier this month.  Parts of Kirby and Swinks Mill Road in McLean have remained closed since July 8. VDOT is hoping to have repairs completed by the end of September. (WUSA9)

Only 40 more days to go in the Metro summer shutdown of the Blue and Yellow line stations. In the months since the construction began, platforms have been equipped with slip-resistant tiles, new platform shelters, LED lights and digital displays. (WUSA9)

The Loudoun United stadium is hustling to put in the final touches before kick-off on Aug. 9, for the team’s first official home game. The team is currently halfway through the United Soccer League season and has held other home-away-from-home games at Audi Field, home of DC United. (WTOP)
