Virginia regulators vote to limit carbon emissions; Virginia ranked as worst state for distracted driving

Virginia regulators have voted to join a regional carbon cap-and-trade program, which could lead to a 30 percent reduction in carbon emissions from the state’s power plants. But, Republican lawmakers put language into the state budget that effectively prevents the state from participating. Gov. Northam could veto the language by a May 3 deadline. (The Washington Post)

A new study by Zendrive, which analyzes the largest data set of how people drive, found that Virginia is the worst state for texting and driving. In 2019, Zendrive says that Virginia drivers use their phone an average of 9% of the time. (Inside NoVA)

The W&OD Trail closure began on Friday, April 19, and will last until late 2020. The closure along the Washington and Old Dominion Trail will allow for construction of a bridge over Lee Highway. (Arl Now)

DC is moving to curb greenhouse gas emissions. A law approved in December requires that all of the city’s electricity come from renewable sources by 2032. (NBC 4 Washington)
