50 Best Restaurants 2017: Red’s Table

A modern American restaurant in Reston

Though the original chef left for D.C. this year, Red’s Table remains a Reston standby—especially with that back patio over Lake Thoreau.

The fried chicken is still a must-order with shatteringly crispy skin, an almost-lacy coating that packs some heat, too. Surrounding the three-piece plate is a liquid-creamy mac and cheese dusted with crumbs, a bright and juicy grilled watermelon and a mini-biscuit, more tender than flaky but good all the same. Cioppino is built from a tangy, spicy tomato sauce that almost outshines its bevy of clams, mussels and shrimp.

The in-house pastry shop pulls out kicked-up kiddie classics, like a brownie sundae decked with an espresso-strong coffee ice cream that’s a buzz.
