It was a huge success when it launched last August. Now The Alexandria Drive-In Theatre has returned for a new spring season of socially-distanced movie watching.
On March 5, the spring 2021 movie lineup kicks off with Jurassic Park–a film that sold out within minutes last summer. The theatre is located at 5001 Eisenhower Avenue, in a parking lot connected to a space owned by its event partner Stonebridge. The lot has room for 215 cars per screening, and during each event there will be local food trucks and businesses selected by Goodfynd; in the past that has included concepts like Peruvian Brothers and DC Slices.
“The Alexandria Drive-In has quickly become a community staple, providing families and households with a safe activity during such a difficult time,” said Allen Brooks, Alexandria Drive-In co-founder, in a statement. “The nostalgia of drive-ins mixed with the desire to be around others safely is something special, and we’re happy to be able to bring the community back together.” Proceeds from ticket sales go towards the ATHENA Rapid Response Innovation Lab and the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria; so far the movies have raised more than $100,000 for locally-loved nonprofits.
Tickets cost $40 per car, per movie, and gates open an hour before showtime. If a screening is canceled due to inclement weather, refunds will not be issued as all proceeds go directly to charity. Masks are required at check-in and whenever attendees are outside their vehicles. Starting in March, the drive-in will also be available for private event rental.
