With December around the corner, George Washington’s Mount Vernon is turning into a winter wonderland. While the Christmas Illuminations firework display has already sold out, there is plenty of holiday fun to have at the estate. Here are four holiday events at the manor to enjoy this season.
Winter Glow
Nov. 27-29, Dec. 11-13, 26-28, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Head over to the estate for a weekend full of shimmering lights. As you tour the historic house lit with lights and holiday patterns, explore the grounds for extra holiday fun. Guests will be able listen to costumed carolers, chat with 18th-century soldiers and pick up a holiday craft for the family. And don’t forget to make a special visit to Aladdin the camel. // $25-$45
Holiday Dinner for the Washingtons Tour
Nov. 27-Dec 27, 1:30 p.m.
Travel back to the 1700s to see how the Washingtons ate for Christmas and the holidays. The 60-minute tour will take guests through the gardens, smokehouse, slave quarters and more to learn how the food was grown, preserved and served during the holidays. The tour will touch on how the enslaved servants at the estate celebrated the holidays. // $10 plus general admission
Mrs. Washington’s Mount Vernon
Nov. 27 through December, 11 a.m.
Get to know more about Martha Washington’s Mount Vernon with this specialty tour. Join Mrs. Washington for a tour of the kitchen, gardens and first floor of the mansion while discussing the plans that go into the busy holiday season. Tour-goers will get a behind the scenes look at the first lady’s daily duties and get their questions answered directly by Martha. // $10
Camel Talks
Nov. 27-Dec. 31, 11 a.m. & 1 p.m.
During your next visit to Mount Vernon, make sure to make your way over to Aladdin the camel. This free 30-minute program allows visitors to get insight into George Washington’s love of exotic animals. // Included with admission
