A class I’m sad to be skipping
Saturday, 2-3 p.m.
I am flying to Texas this week, so needless to say the warmer weather in my near future is what I’m most looking forward to. But I will admit that my excitement is slightly dampened by the fact that I will be missing out on BadWolf Brewing Company’s Beer Boot Camp 102. I didn’t get to go to the first one (Beer Boot Camp 101), and though I won’t be in town for this one either, I’m hopeful I’ll be able to attend another class sometime soon. In a discussion lead by brewers, learn about the many forms that beer may take. If you were lucky enough to attend the first class, know that this class’ content is different from the last. –RK // BadWolf BrewHouse: 8420 Kao Circle, Manassas
An early chance at Fall for the Book
Friday, 7:30 p.m.
It should be no surprise that I am a fan of literature, every aspect of it: reading it, writing it, but most importantly, learning from others about their process. Each year, I mark up my calendar for which events I want to make it to during the Fall for the Book events in the fall and I never end up making it to any of them due to my schedule, or my kids’ schedules. But this week, I have a shot at making one as the Fall for the Book’s Spring Reading Series is hosting Chloe Benjamin, author of The Immortalists. –LN // George Mason University Center for the Arts, Grand Tier III: 4373 Mason Pond Drive, Fairfax
Next up on the tap
Friday, 3 p.m.
The weather (mercifully) is starting to change to our benefit and so are the taps at Port City Brewing Company. The Alexandria brewery is continuing its Lager Series by putting its Helles Lager German-style blonde pilsner into the rotation from now until mid-May. You can be one of the first to grab a glass of Helles starting Friday. Helles will only be available on draft, but you can fill a growler or crowler to take home and enjoy whenever, because what better way to finally enjoy spring than on your porch with a fresh brew in hand. –MB // Port City Brewing Company: 3950 Wheeler Ave., Alexandria
