If you believe that style died with modern fashion, make an appointment here. It doubles as owner Shelley White’s warehouse for outfitting the stars for films (think Chris Rock for Netflix’s Rustin) and offers a treasure chest of pieces from the turn of the century through the 1970s that won’t break the bank. (While prices vary, dresses typically start at $65.) Attire is arranged on racks by the decade. The gorgeous 1920s beaded drop-waist frocks are straight out of The Great Gatsby, and there’s a designer selection with attire from the likes of Halston. The men’s section is stacked, too — a shirt inspired by Saturday Night Fever’s John Travolta is one groovy find. 5179-B Lee Hwy., Arlington —K.S.
If its cheery mint green facade doesn’t automatically draw you in, the bright and colorful clothing inside will. This consignment shop stays active on its Instagram feed (@shopmintcondition), so it’s easy to snag what you want, but do so quickly! Items sell fast. Recent finds include a black-and-cream Kate Spade dress for $50, a daffodil-yellow Alexander McQueen bag for $370, and several pairs of Tory Burch flats for under $60. Mint Condition is family-owned and -operated, and it shows — the place is warm and welcoming to anyone who pops in for a look. 103 S. St. Asaph St., Alexandria —K.O.
Tucked away inside an inconspicuous office building in Fairfax, St. Anthony’s Bridal is nearly bursting at the seams with hundreds of worn-once wedding gowns donated by brides. Every dress at this nonprofit boutique, from simple sheaths to couture ball gowns, is priced at or under $250, with most costing only $195. The shop, which is entirely staffed by volunteers, also sells veils for under $100 and offers referrals to a seamstress who discounts her fees for St. Anthony’s Bridal customers. Donations arrive frequently, so there’s always something new to discover. 10560 Main St., Ste. 401, Fairfax —A.D.
