Creativity can strike at all hours. For Alyssa Kovach, a mom of three young sons, her lightbulb moment came during her late-night nursing sessions after she had her third baby. After a search for Alexandria-inspired clothing turned up nothing, the Alexandria resident dreamed up her own line, A|VA Apparel, working on the designs during those early newborn days. Launched last fall, the clothing and accessories are available online and at some local boutiques around town—and she’s also created the Alexandria Makers Market, which showcases the work of her fellow, local creatives. Look for the next Makers pop-up this spring. In the meantime, Kovach shares her favorite NoVA hot spots and fashion finds.

“I bring my kids to the Winkler Botanical Preserve in Alexandria a lot. It’s a beautiful, tranquil nature preserve, and when I’m there I totally forget we live in a city!”
On Thursday, April 19, catch Kovach selling her collection of Alexandria-inspired T-shirts, tanks, hats, baby clothing and more at the Spring Market hosted by The Alexandrian and Jackson 20. The inaugural affair will include booths from local vendors, live entertainment, hors d’ouevres and more.
