Christen Kinard, alongside her mother, Rev. Nell Green, founded Threads by Nomad to foster a haven for refugees to nurture a career and to broadcast social entrepreneurship. She creates clothing “that is inspired by women all over the world,” and reveals her favorite shopping and eats in NoVA.
Shopping spot for grooming products
I swear by the team at Stylists at North on North Lee Street. I get all of my products there; favorite brands include Davines, Rituel de Fille and Kevin Murphy.

Style philosophy
Have fun. It’s not about trends, spending a lot of money or even always about dressing for your body type. It’s about seeing style as an opportunity for self-expression and joy.

Spot for relaxation
Hands down, Vikriya Lab. Whether I attend a restorative class at the end of a long day or a power class on Sunday mornings, I always leave feeling renewed and grateful for this community.

Shopping spot for casual attire
Threadleaf just opened up on the 100 block of South Royal Street and I love her aesthetic. Everything she sells is sustainable and easy to wear.
Where you go to splurge
I’m trying to make really conscious choices about where and how I spend. But local jewelry designer, and friend, Ruth Barzel is joining Threads by Nomad (along with other small business owners) for pop ups and I have been saving to purchase some of her newest designs.

Favorite NoVA dining spot
Other than Brut Champagne and Wine Bar, I love Pita House on King Street. They always agree to put fries in my chicken shawarma sandwich, which is the way they’re supposed to be eaten.
