After spending so much time in our own personal spaces, whether that be the backyard or the living room, many local residents have realized it’s time to spruce up their decor. And, if that sentiment rings true for you, this summer you’ll have the chance to create your very own wall art, thanks to Fairfax-based Board & Brush and its at-home DIY classes.
Earlier this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the locally owned business launched @Home Kits, bringing its pre-stained wood boards, stencils, paint brushes, sandpaper and all other materials to you. While the shop has started hosting small-sized, in-person workshops again, it is continuing its @Home Kits offerings for those who feel more comfortable getting crafty in the safety of their homes.
On Friday, July 24, your weekend can get a bit brighter with Board & Brush’s “Christmas in July!” kit, giving you the chance to either create a summer-themed piece of art, or a Christmas-themed wood board, as we could all use a little holiday cheer right now. All you have to do is pick up the materials at the Fairfax shop, and then follow along with the instructions to create a beautiful sign for your home.
Plus, if your kiddo is getting in touch with his or her creative side this summer, consider signing up for the organization’s weekly kid-focused camps. Each week features a new theme, consisting of four in-person workshops that result in four different projects.
On Monday, July 20, week four will begin with the theme “Play Ball,” giving kids the chance to create a wall hook and three other sports-related signs. Then, for the last week of July, the theme will be “Sleepover,” and participants will make three wooden signs, as well as their very own tote bag. // 11215 Lee Highway, Suite J, Fairfax; prices vary
