We’re still nearly two months out from the first day of spring, but now’s the time to get a head start on all your gardening prep and planning.
Washington Gardeners Magazine will host its 12th annual seed exchange on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 12:30-4 p.m. at Green Spring Gardens in Alexandria. Participants are encourage to bring seeds and exchange them with other attendees in order to add new interest in their gardens in 2017.
Not only will the participants be able to swap seeds, but there will also be lectures from gardening specialists Sara Tangren and Linda L. Jones. They will offer tips and insight into planting, seed collection and propagation.
The seed exchange gives gardeners the chance to exchange seeds to add variety to their garden, get advice from experts and meet other people who share their passion. Those bringing seeds are asked to put roughly 20 seeds in a resealable plastic bag. Label the bag with the seeds’ common and scientific names; soil, sun and watering requirements; and other pertinent information.
Don’t have any seeds to trade? Not a problem. You can still come and listen to the lectures to build your knowledge and skills. Attendees will leave the event with a goody bag, and door prizes will be given away to select winners.
Tickets are $15 for Friends of Green Spring members and Washington Gardener subscribers. Tickets for the general public are $20. Make sure to register ahead of time to guarantee your spot.
