If you’re ready to kickstart an exercise plan or just a way to have fun on your own or in a group, joining a run is a great way to do that. Pull on your sneaks and hit the pavement — and join in on one of these runs in Northern Virginia this New Year’s Day.
New Day New Year 5K/10K
Meet at House 6 Brewing Co. and kick off the new year with a 5- or 10K. There’s a food truck with breakfast and of course you’ll need a beer after you run, so plan to stay around and celebrate the day at the adult-friendly hang out. Virtual options are also available. Predictions and Resolutions 5K Run
The annual DC Road Runners Predictions & Resolutions 5K will start at Washington-Liberty High School. Park in the Stafford Street parking deck or take the Metro from Virginia Square. Start Time: noon; Washington-Liberty High School: 1301 N. Stafford St., Arlington
Redeye
If you want to go the distance to start the year, then this 50K trail run is for you. A serious group for serious runners, this event is organized by Virginia Happy Trails Running Club and you have to sign a waiver. Start Time: 8 a.m.; Pine Grove Picnic Area, Prince William Forest Park
Furnish a Home Again New Years Day 10K, 5K, 1 Mile
This 5k/10k inside of Pratt Park in historic Fredericksburg is a great way to give to charity while working off some of those holiday pounds. Walkers and strollers are welcome at this event. Start Times: 9:30-10 a.m.; Pratt Park: 120 River Rd., Fredericksburg
New Years Day 5K
If you like swag, this is the race for you. All pre-registered participants will receive a commemorative New Year’s Day quarter zip, a race bib, photo overlays, and a digital finisher certificate. Held at Reston Town Center, you can sign up for the race as late as New Year’s Day. Start Time: 10 a.m; Reston Town Center: 11900 Market St., Reston
