For the 11th year in a row, DC VegFest is making its way to the District for a day full of entertainment in the form of musical performances, educational sessions and a whole lot of food.
The annual event (held on Aug. 11 this year) is hosted by DC-based nonprofit Compassion Over Killing, an animal advocacy organization that strives to end animal abuse by exposing cruelty to farmed animals and promoting vegan eating. This year’s event, located inside Nationals Park, is expected to attract more than 20,000 attendees from across the country.
The day will feature over 20 vendors providing vegan food throughout the event, including Mom’s Organic Market, LivingWell, Sweet Crimes and many more. In addition to the vegetable-based goods, about over 100 commercial exhibitors and nonprofits will have booths set up for festival-goers to shop or learn about the benefits of plant-based eating.
Whether you’re a vegan, pre-vegan or just really want to try out this style of cuisine, this event has something for you. Guests can expect to hear from prominent authors, activists and business leaders who strive to make a difference, including Tracye McQuirter, Neil Barnard and Brenda Sanders. For those who want to see how vegan dishes are actually created, there will be cooking demos from Joe Yonan of The Washington Post and plant-based chef Bev Kumari.
There will also be a kids zone open throughout the entirety of the event, as well as an adoption area for dogs in need. This event is completely free. // Nationals Park: 1500 S. Capitol St. SE, Washington, DC; August 11, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; free
