Hot wings fans don’t have to shuffle off to Buffalo to find them. You’ll find them at Frank & Teressa’s Anchor Bar in the Village at Leesburg.
This is the 12th location for the iconic Buffalo-based landmark that created the gastronomic masterpiece in 1964. Anchor Bar offers a comfort food menu of wings, burgers, pizza, sandwiches, and beer.
Service is spotty, as the young team organizes. When asked what beers are on tap, our server hands us a tiny, handwritten sheet of paper with beverages listed.
Food arrives quickly, and the traditional bone-in wings with medium heat taste unremarkable, leaving us disappointed. The fatty exterior lacks a generous dousing of sauce and would improve if crispier.
The more spicy garlic parmesan version provides kick, but offers little sauce and an even stingier dusting of cheese on only a few wings.

Our table’s favorite dish is another Buffalo classic, Beef on Weck. The tasty sandwich piles high thinly sliced roast beef on a salt and caraway seed–covered Kimmelweck bun. Presented with au jus and horseradish, this gem is the highlight of our meal.
The pizza is unremarkable, and skip the spicy hot chicken wing soup.

Anchor Bar does have a lot in the plus column: family and budget friendly, multiple TVs for sports, indoor-outdoor seating, weekend breakfast, and a fun, youthful vibe. Maybe in time — on a wing and a prayer — the restaurant will anchor itself in the community. 1609 Village Market Blvd. SE, Leesburg
