Let’s be honest. It doesn’t get much better than a day specifically set to celebrate the deliciousness of a homemade pie.
Pi Day was founded by physicist Larry Shaw back in 1988 and is the annual celebration of the mathematical concept of pi. It is celebrated on (you guessed it) March 14 or 3.14. So what better way to celebrate Pi Day than with a tasty pie?
Northern Virginia bakeries have everything from seasonal fruit or sweet cream-filled pies to warm chicken potpies with buttery, flaky crusts to help you celebrate.

Livin’ the Pie Life
Celebrate Pi Day with one of this bakery’s two box options that each include three pies and one extra surprise. Box A includes a chocolate caramel chess pie, fresh lemon chess pie, cherry crumb pie, and a surprise. Box B contains a southern pecan pie, raspberry almond bakewell tart, an award-winning brown butter coconut pie, and a surprise. And that’s not all. Three lucky customers will receive a $20 Willy Wonka-style golden ticket inside their boxes. The bakery will open at 10 a.m. on Pi Day and the special boxes will be first-come, first-serve, with a limit of two. 2166 N. Glebe Rd., Arlington

Amphora Bakery
Amphora will have a variety of pies available, but demand was so strong for its special for Pi Day, which included the Pi symbol baked into the crust, that it has stopped taking orders. 294 Sunset Park Dr., Herndon

Pie Gourmet
Pie Gourmet has been specializing in and serving up homemade artisan pies to the community since 1988. So what better place to stop in and get your pie fix? The bakery offers classics such as apple, cherry, and coconut cream — or if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, try something different like the blackberry peach or apple raspberry. Do you prefer a savory pie? Pie Gourmet has got you covered there, too. The savory pie options include Shepherd’s pie, sausage and pepper pot pie, Mexican pie, and chicken pot pie. 507 Maple Ave. W., Vienna

Kiwi Kuisine Pies
This Alexandria pie shop is yet another place where you can celebrate the day by placing an order for one of its tasty options. The sweet pie menu includes key lime, passionfruit, and apple salted caramel. Or if savory is more your style, try the steak and garlic mushroom pie or perhaps the spicy butter chicken. 4548 Eisenhower Ave., Alexandria
