When it comes to travel, American citizens don’t have a lot of options right now, even if we do feel like braving an airplane flight. But Samuel Beckett’s Irish Gastro Pub in the Village at Shirlington is making it a little less painful to stay grounded with a new set of whiskey flights that transport drinkers to Ireland, Scotland, Japan or around the world.
Flights are available in a range of prices, There’s the $12 Golden Age flight of Irish whiskeys, which includes Bushmills Original, Kilbeggan Original and Powers Gold Label for the budget “traveler.”
But for those willing to sink a little more cash into their experience (it is far cheaper than a plane ticket, after all) the scotch-focused Highland Hiker includes Virginia Highland, Oban 14 and Glenmorangie Signet for $40. The other $40 flight takes drinkers around the world with Yellow Spot, Glenlivet Nadura Oloroso, Hibiki Harmony and Booker’s Bourbon.
In total, there are a dozen flights from which to choose, as well as a stacked whiskey list that allows you to taste a la carte. Those drinks include luxury tipples such as Middleton Distillery’s Redbreast 21, rated one of the world’s best and costing a cool $60 a pour.
And since Samuel Beckett’s is a gastropub after all, you won’t be stuck pairing your exclusive sips with neeps and tatties. Start with a smoked pheasant salad or shepherd’s pie empanadas, then move on to beef Wellington with an appropriate side of Jameson mashed potatoes. It will be a tasty trip, minus the jet lag. // 2800 S. Randolph St., Suite 110, Arlington
