Arlington County police on Monday charged a security guard with the Sunday afternoon shooting a teenager at the now-vacant property that had been the Key Bridge Marriott.
Ahmed Namnoom, 53, of Laurel, Maryland, faces charges of malicious wounding and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, the police said.
According to police, Namnoom, who was on patrol as a security guard in the 1400 block of Langston Boulevard, encountered a group of teens who had entered the fenced-in property, headed toward the vacant hotel. Namnoom approached the group in a vehicle, confronted them with a gun, and fired a shot that struck the teen, the police said.
The teen ran from the scene and called police from the 1800 block of North Lynn Street, several blocks away. Police found the teen around 4:24 p.m. The police said medics took him to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call the police at 703-228-4180.
