One off-duty U.S. Park Police officer is dead and another behind bars after a shooting early Sunday in a McLean apartment, Fairfax County police said.
Jesse Brown Hernandez, 22, of McLean, died in what the police department said was reported as an unintentional shooting.
The police said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the shooting they responded to at 12:20 a.m. in the apartment in the 17800 block of Old Meadow Road.
According to police, Alexander Roy, 25, of McLean, was attempting to dry fire a firearm. That’s when you pull the trigger of a gun that is unloaded, except police said the gun was loaded.
Hernandez was shot in the upper body.
At the time of the shooting, there were four people in the apartment, three of them off-duty U.S. Park Police officers.
Roy has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting.
