Fairfax County police are investigating the shooting of a 12-year-old boy in Lincolnia Tuesday afternoon.
The child sustained “multiple gunshot wounds to the lower body,” according to Sgt. Jacob Pearce, who spoke during a brief news conference as police investigated the scene in the 4600 block of North Chambliss Street.
The boy’s wounds were not life-threatening and he was taken to a hospital, police said.
Pearce said the call to the police came in at 4:18 p.m.
He said the outside shooting involved multiple suspects, with one leaving the scene in a white BMW. The police said because of the chaotic nature of the scene Tuesday afternoon that they only had a “very limited description of the suspects,” and not enough to release to the public.
“The circumstances are still under investigation,” Pearce said. “We believe there is no immediate threat to the public.”
Fairfax County police Tuesday afternoon canvassed the Lincolnia neighborhood for suspects and encouraged anyone who witnessed what happened or had video footage from security cameras to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (866-411-8477).
