A Woodbridge man who police say struck a pedestrian on Columbia Pike in Bailey’s Crossroads in July now faces additional charges: aggravated DWI manslaughter and felony hit and run.
Benjamin Lopez Encinas, 33, remains held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center in connection with the crash that killed Luis Fernando Jimenez Rodriguez, 26, according to a news release.
Fairfax County police previously charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol after they said he left the scene of the 2:13 a.m. July 8 crash on Columbia Pike near Lincolnia Road. They located him and the 2010 BMW he was driving in the 6100 block of Marshall Drive after the crash.
The police said the crash was the fifth pedestrian-related fatality this year. That compares to 11 during the same time period in 2022.
