Kimberly Winter, 33, of Spotsylvania County, now holds a world record that you may either laugh about or cringe at. She produced the world’s loudest burp by a female.
“I’ve kind of always known I was able to burp loud ever since I was a little girl,” she said in a video posted on the Guinness World Records YouTube site. “Everyone growing up, [said] ‘You’re so loud.’ Even my parents would be like, ‘Can’t you please shut up?'”
Instead of being embarrassed, Winter leaned into her belching ability and decided to take it to the next level. She burps a lot on TikTok under the user name, kimycola, where she has nearly 5,100 followers who come to watch the Burp Queen, as she’s known.
“I realized I was probably one of the loudest women out there because one time, I got kicked out of a bar for burping too loud,” she said.
The burp she let out in April while live on the air on the Elliot in the Morning show measured 107.3 decibels, 0.3 decibels louder than the previous world record held by Elisa Cagnoni of Italy. Guinness announced last week that she broke the record.
So just how loud is 107.3 decibels? Louder than a food processor and roughly as loud as a gas-powered leaf blower, according to the Hearing Health Foundation.
Winter said she has burped as loudly as 109.7 decibels.
“Sometimes for me, the burping just comes out of nowhere. A little bit of water can do the trick. Some nice food. Some spicy food. Some soda. Some alcohol. Any of that stuff will make me burp,” she said.
But she does try different food combinations to see the difference.
She said savors people’s reactions.
“I love to be loud and proud.”
