A Vienna man who witnesses say was shouting obscenities and throwing bottles from his apartment window was taken into custody Monday night after an hours-long standoff with police.
The suspect, who has not yet been identified, reportedly barricaded himself in his Park Terrace Condominiums residence at around 3 p.m. Monday as Vienna Police attempted to serve him with a search warrant. Multiple residents told NBC 4 that the man’s erratic behavior had been going on for days.
About seven hours transpired before the suspect was taken into custody. The man continued “shouting incoherent and frankly offensive things” as he was escorted from the premises, according to the NBC 4 report. The suspect was then loaded into an ambulance and treated for tear gas inhalation and decontamination.
News footage following the arrest revealed piles of debris stacked against the suspect’s broken second-story window, which police reportedly shattered in an attempt to smoke the suspect out.
The incident remains under investigation.
