A wild scene that unfolded at a Sterling Costco has landed an Ashburn man in jail, where he’s being held without bond and facing multiple charges.
Officers from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from Costco on Tuesday afternoon after Sady Ashkar, 32, was observed allegedly shoplifting, according to a sheriff’s office report.
When two deputies confronted the subject, Ashkar resisted, assaulting the officers as they tried to apprehend him, according to the report.
One of the deputies then tased Ashkar, “which had no effect on him,” the report said.
Ashkar then fled toward the entrance, but was kept from leaving by several store employees. He continued to resist the two deputies, even tackling one before grabbing and throwing the officer’s Taser, the police report said. That officer was transported to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries before being released.
During the scrum, the suspect also unsuccessfully attempted to take the deputy’s holstered firearm. Additional responding officers tased Ashkar once more before placing him under arrest.
As he was being medically evaluated, Ashkar reportedly assaulted a Loudoun County Rescue paramedic. After he was finally subdued, Ashkar was transported to a local hospital before being moved to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
Ashkar is being charged with assault on law enforcement and rescue personnel, attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and larceny.
