Wawa fans, be filled with joy! Today, July 16, the brand celebrated the official grand opening of its Vienna location at 8 a.m. with a virtual event.
The location is Wawa’s first-ever “retrofit” of an existing building, turning it into a new food and beverage destination. The new store opened to the public for the first time on July 16, with an official ribbon cutting outside of the store with associates standing 6 feet apart.
The Wawa store features a custom, new design with a focus on food and specialty beverages available in store and through third-party delivery partners like DoorDash and UberEats. The store is 6,290 square feet with cedar, vintage wood siding, lush landscaping and Tesla charging stations for added convenience.
To keep the community safe during the celebration, Wawa released a welcome video to the public with Vienna Mayor Linda J. Colbert making an appearance to build the location’s first ceremonial hoagie.
With the opening of the new store, the location also announced it’s launching the Lending a Helping Hoagie initiative in the community, which will donate $1,000 from the new store’s first week of sales to Capital Area Food Bank to help relieve hunger in the area.
“At Wawa, our core purpose is to go beyond filling orders to fulfilling lives, and we’re excited to join the Vienna community to provide resources, job opportunities and community support,” said Chris Gheysens, president & CEO of Wawa, in a recent press release. “We are committed to providing comfort and a sense of normalcy in the safest way possible and will continue to listen to the needs of our customers during this challenging time.”
In addition to Vienna, three more Wawa locations are currently under contract in Northern Virginia and Wawa is continuing to look for new sites in the commonwealth, with plans to open five to 10 stores each year for the foreseeable future.
