Olympians Bring International Skating Center to Leesburg
From former Olympic figure skater and Romanian national champion Luiz Taifas and his wife, Mitra Setayesh, the ION International Training Center is planned to be a 95,000-square-foot facility with a full-service gym and a cafe. They hope the center will serve as a training ground for international athletes and attract national and international tournaments and hockey camps. Construction is expected to take a year.
Cyclists Get a Safer Path in Arlington
Arlington County is in the process of installing a protected bike lane on Wilson Boulevard between North Oak and North Quinn streets. This process creates a lane either within or adjacent to the existing roadway, but no on-street parking will be disrupted once construction is completed.
Parking to Buildings in Reston
Three developers are planning to turn a current parking lot on a 17.5-acre site east of Wiehle Avenue, south of Sunset Hills Road, into a 1.6 million-square-foot development that will include residential, retail, a park and a senior living center. A development application was submitted to Fairfax County in November.
